There are four kinds of people who'll sell you marketing for your trade. Here's who they are, the model they all run, and where I'm built different.
Most of them do fine work. The issue is the model, not the people.
A proven playbook and a real team, but built to run hundreds of contractors at once. You get an account manager, not the person doing the work, and the monthly comes whether the phone rings or not. You're one of many.
They sell the same lead to several pros, so you're racing three other trucks to a customer who's price-shopping. You rent access. Stop paying and it's gone. You never own a thing.
Builds you a clean site, maybe boosts a post or two, then it just sits there. A nice-looking site is not the same as someone out there bringing you work. It's a brochure, not marketing.
Genuinely useful tools. But you're the one who has to set them up and run them, on top of running your crew. It's a tool, not a person doing the job for you.
A website, an ad account, a monthly bill. Almost none of them do the part that actually grows you.
I'm the opposite of the one-to-many model. Fewer clients, more work, real skin in the game.
The money side backs all of this up: a lean monthly that just covers my costs, plus a cut of the revenue I actually bring in. The big agencies get paid to keep the lights on. I only make real money when you do. But the pay is the last reason to pick me, not the first. The first reason is that someone is finally out there doing the actual work.
| The usual agency | Me | |
|---|---|---|
| Who does your work | An account manager with a full roster | The person you talk to. Me. |
| How they're paid | Flat monthly, dead month or not | Lean monthly, plus a cut of results |
| New demand each month | Rare. The setup runs itself | A new play in the water every month |
| Who owns it | Often them. You rent it | You. All of it, forever |
| Clients per person | Dozens to hundreds | A few per area, on purpose |
